If you haven't read Cassandra Clare's 'The Mortal Instruments', stop what you are doing right now. Go buy them and start immediately. Seriously.
The Mortal Instruments is a series that had me hooked me from the first page. The story follows Clary, Simon, Jace, Alec and Isabelle as they are launched into a society that Clary, and most of the human race, doesn't know exists, the Shadowhunters.
One of the most fascinating pieces about the world of Shadowhunters is that all of the legends are true. Vampires? They are real. Werewolves? They're hanging around the streets of New York City. Fairies? The devious little buggers are hiding underground. Wizards? Just wait until you meet the High Warlock of Brooklyn.

All legends come from a story and I love how Clare uses these stories to develop her own. While Shadowhunters are her creations, she utilizes classic mythical creatures to develop a world where anything can happen. Each different legend plays an integral part of her world as the Shadowhunters are constantly interacting with these mythical creatures. Furthermore, some of the books' main characters manifest from these legends.
Another confession, Jace is my ultimate book crush. You cannot read without swooning for the angelic bad boy. My now-husband/then-boyfriend called me in the middle of reading this series, I answered the phone with an intense: "I have a confession." Luckily, we were able to work through it.
